Bhubaneswar, January 29: Ramanath Das, former Multi-Purpose Health Supervisor of Rourkela Municipality, has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the Special Judge (Vigilance) in Sundargarh. The conviction stems from a long-running corruption case dating back over two decades.

Das, who had retired from his position, was found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the Indian Penal Code for embezzling government funds between 1999 and 2001. He manipulated records and made false payments to Nominal Muster Roll (NMR) workers, causing a significant financial loss.

The Odisha Vigilance also announced plans to halt Das’s pension, in line with regulations for convicted government employees.
