New Delhi, Sept 17: Arvind Kejriwal tendered his resignation as Delhi Chief Minister on Tuesday, just hours after the AAP selected Atishi as his successor for the post.
Kejriwal arrived at the Delhi LG Saxena's residence around 4:30 P.M accompanied by other AAP leaders, including Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj and submitted his resignation.
The AAP will now stake a claim for government formation under Atishi's leadership.
Sources said there would be no Deputy Chief Minister and Atishi would take oath on September 26-27.
Atishi, who has been picked up to be the new Chief Minister of Delhi, said she will work for the next few months with the goal of returning Arvind Kejriwal to the post after the upcoming elections.
Addressing a Press conference she said, "First, I would like to thank the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for giving me such a big responsibility and showing trust in me. This can happen only in AAP that a first time politician becomes Chief Minister of a state"
As much as I am happy for being given such a big responsibility, I am also sad that the Delhi Chief Minister is resigning, she said.
