Cuttack, Aug 5: On the third Monday of the holy month of 'Shravan' ('Sawan'), a large number of devotees flocked to various Shiva shrines in Odisha including the famous Dhabaleswar temple in Cuttack from the early hours. They offered milk, water, and 'bel' leaves to the deity on this auspicious day.
Kanwariyas also gathered in large numbers at the shrines to pour holy water on the Shiva Linga.
According to tradition, offering prayers to Lord Shiva on 'Shravan' Mondays is believed to fulfil wishes. Many devotees also observed fasts to seek the god’s blessings.
During this sacred month, devotees visit various temples, including Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar, Lokanath temple in Puri, Dhabaleswar temple in Athagarh, Kapilash temple in Dhenkanal, Gupteswar temple in Koraput, and Harishankar temple in Bolangir, to seek Lord Shiva's blessings. While Lord Shiva is worshipped on Mondays throughout the year, praying to him on the Mondays of Shravan is considered especially significant and auspicious.
To ensure a smooth experience for the devotees, adequate police and administrative arrangements have been made at major Shiva shrines across the state.
