Satkosia, Feb 4: A crocodile was found dead in the Mahulia canal near the village of Ramimunda, close to the Tikarpada area in the Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary. The crocodile, belonging to the Mugger species, showed signs of injury on its hind legs. However, the exact cause of death remains unclear, and the authorities have stated that the cause will be determined after a post-mortem examination.

Preliminary observations suggest that the crocodile might have been injured by an elephant, as there were elephant footprints near the canal. It is possible that the elephants, which frequent the area for water, may have come into conflict with the crocodile. The possibility that the elephant may have attacked the crocodile has not been ruled out, but this remains speculative until further investigation.

No significant injuries were found on other parts of the crocodile's body, suggesting that the death may not be of natural causes. The authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death. This has sparked curiosity and concern among locals and wildlife enthusiasts.
