New Delhi, June 2: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has reportedly communicated his intentions regarding his future in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the party’s top leadership during a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, sources said.

According to party insiders, Annamalai held detailed discussions with BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh. The meeting focused on the current political landscape in Tamil Nadu, the BJP’s electoral performance in the state, and measures needed to strengthen the party’s presence going forward.

Sources indicated that Annamalai candidly shared his assessment of the factors behind the BJP’s inability to make significant electoral gains in Tamil Nadu and outlined his views on the party’s future strategy in the state. During the discussions, he also conveyed his thoughts regarding his political future and the possibility of stepping away from the party.

Party leaders have reportedly assured Annamalai that his concerns and suggestions will be reviewed, with a decision expected either later on Tuesday or by Wednesday morning. Following the leadership’s response, Annamalai is likely to address the media and clarify his next course of action, including whether he intends to remain with the BJP or launch a separate political platform.

Speculation surrounding Annamalai’s future has intensified in recent days. Responding to reports and social media discussions about a possible exit from the BJP and the formation of a new political outfit, he had earlier remarked, “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days.”

Adding to the buzz, posters carrying messages such as “Our Leader, Come and Lead Us” have appeared across several locations in Coimbatore ahead of Annamalai’s birthday celebrations on June 4.

The developments come against the backdrop of major political changes in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly elections. The elections witnessed a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape, with TVK securing 108 seats in its maiden electoral contest, ending the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK-led formations. Following the victory, party chief Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s 13th Chief Minister and subsequently assumed office at the Secretariat in Chennai.
