New Delhi, September 24: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has called on Chief Justice of India (CJI) B R Gavai and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal to expedite the finalisation of the Memorandum of Procedure (MoP) and establish a "transparent, equitable, and merit-based" framework for judicial appointments in the Supreme Court and High Courts.
In a letter dated September 12, SCBA President and senior advocate Vikas Singh highlighted concerns regarding the structural flaws within the existing collegium system. He expressed that the ongoing delays in implementing reforms were eroding both the integrity of the judiciary and public trust.
While acknowledging that the collegium system was initially designed to protect judicial independence, Singh pointed out that it has, over time, introduced significant challenges that need urgent addressing.
