Bhubaneswar, October 25: The Odisha State Cabinet has on Saturday approved the implementation of the "Small Animal Development" sub-scheme under the Prani Sampad Samruddhi Yojana (PSSY), an initiative by the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department.

The scheme, set to run for four years from 2025-26 to 2028-29, comes with a total budget allocation of Rs 294.36 crore. It is learnt to benefit 23,735 farmers, including women’s self-help groups (WSHGs), and is projected to add 12.25 thousand metric tons (TMT) of meat production annually.

This initiative is part of the state government's broader efforts to address the growing demand for meat and meat products. The PSSY already includes a sub-scheme focused on “Poultry Development,” which was previously approved by the Cabinet.
