Kolkata, Dec 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s helicopter was unable to land at the Taherpur helipad in West Bengal on Saturday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog, an official said.

After hovering over the helipad for some time, the helicopter turned back and returned to Kolkata airport. As per the latest reports, the Prime Minister remained at the airport, awaiting updates on the weather conditions.

Officials said it was not immediately known whether Modi would proceed to the rally venue in Nadia district by road or attempt another aerial journey once the weather improved.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister arrived in Kolkata at around 10.40 am and boarded a helicopter for Taherpur. He is scheduled to attend an administrative programme there to inaugurate highway projects in West Bengal, followed by a BJP political rally titled Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha, which he is slated to address.
