Bhubaneswar, May 22: Gone are the days when high-speed broadband internet remained out of bound for India’s vast rural population. The latest telecom subscription data released by TRAI has revealed a new trend, that shows increased availability of 5G fixed wireless access is redefining the high-speed broadband internet adoption in rural areas.
As per the data, JioAirFiber accounts for the entire 25 lakh plus rural 5G FWA subscribes in India as of March 2025. Around 44% of Jio’s total 5G FWA service JioAirFiber subscribers by March belong to rural areas. In fact, Jio is the only service provider which is offering its 5G fixed wireless access (5G FWA) service in both urban centers as well as the vast rural expanse, unlike competition which is primarily focused on urban areas only. It is worth mentioning that Jio dominates the 5G FWA segment in he country with over 82 percent subscriber market share and over 55.7 lakh JioAirFiber subscribers, leaving the nearest competitor far behind.
In Odisha, fueled by the robust Jio True5G standalone network across the state, especially in the vast rural expanse, the number of JioAirFiber subscribers in the state has crossed 1.5 lakhs as of March 31, 2025. The number of JioAirFiber subscribers in the state is over five times more than the nearest competitor, as per the latest data released by TRAI, recently.
The immense popularity and fast adoption of JioAirFiber, especially in the rural parts of Odisha, reinforces the increasing demand for reliable high-speed broadband internet access in rural Odisha, which was lacked fiber connectivity due to challenges of last-mile connectivity. This has come as a boon for thousands of rural entrepreneurs, digital studios, content creators, small businesses, working professionals, students, and teachers across the state.
