Bhubaneswar, November 17: Dr. Satyajit Naik, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Central Range, Cuttack, has said that strict measures will be taken against illegal immigrants, particularly in the coastal areas of the state, following a recent demolition drive in Jagatsinghpur. The drive targeted the properties of a suspected Bangladeshi national and is part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration.

In a press briefing held in Jagatsinghpur, Dr. Naik directed law enforcement officers to remain vigilant and ensure that illegal activities linked to undocumented immigrants do not resurface in the region. He emphasized that stringent actions would be taken to address the issue effectively.

Earlier on Monday, Dr. Naik, along with the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police of Jagatsinghpur, visited Beherampur Basti in the Sadar Police Station area, where a demolition drive was conducted against the illegal house of a suspected Bangladeshi national. The demolition was carried out using a bulldozer, with a total of 10 houses being razed as part of the larger operation.

The property in question, built illegally by Sikandar Alam alias Siku, had stood for four years. Authorities allege that Alam facilitated the illegal entry of Bangladeshi migrants into the area, employing them for various jobs. The issue came to light after several children, identified as non-Indian nationals, were rescued from the area just days earlier.

During the demolition operation, police and administration officials faced violent resistance, resulting in the injury of the Additional SP. Following the attack, a raid was conducted at the premises, where a firearm and several sharp weapons were recovered.

In response to the incident, the district administration has taken a firm stance, ordering the demolition of the unauthorized property and addressing the illegal use of electricity. The Tehsildar confirmed that the demolition drive will be expanded across the district. Four individuals have been detained for questioning, and efforts are underway to apprehend additional suspects involved in the illegal activities.
