Jharsuguda, Oct 25: A lecturer in Odisha's Jharsuguda district, who was assaulted by one of his students on February 22 this year, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night after an eight-month-long battle at a hospital.
The lecturer has been identified as Amit Barik while the accused is identified as Rajesh Sahish, a +3 second-year student of PKSS Graduate College in the Kantapalli area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.
According to the information, Rajesh had an argument with his teacher Amit after he was asked the reason for being late to class. The argument took an ugly turn while an enraged Rajesh attacked the teacher fatally in front of the whole class.
Following the attack, Amit sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. He was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VSSIMSAR) as his health condition worsened. However, he succumbed late Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, police have arrested Rajesh and are probing into the incident.
