Bhubaneswar, Mar 22: Two staff of Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar have been suspended following a group clash on March 17 that resulted in one inmate being injured.
The Odisha Prisons authorities have suspended Warder Prabhat Kumar Maharana and Chief Warder Manguli Sethi from their duties on administrative reasons and for dereliction of duties.
Sources said, three inmates—Chakara Barik, Jaga, and Papu—assaulted fellow prisoner Shambhunath Barik on the night of March 17, allegedly over illicit drug trading. Shambhunath Barik was subsequently hospitalized at Capital Hospital for treatment.
Warder Prabhat, assigned to the high-security section, faced disciplinary action for allegedly showing favoritism towards Chakara Barik, one of the assailants, by failing to monitor his activities within the prison. CCTV footage revealed that the warder had released Chakara without proper supervision.
Similarly, Chief Warder Manguli Sethi, responsible for overseeing night duties and narcotics checks within the jail, also faced suspension in connection with the incident.
