Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Special arrangements have been made at the Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, to protect the animals from the severe winter conditions. The zoo authorities have implemented a range of measures across various enclosures to ensure the well-being and comfort of the animals during the cold season.

In the reptile garden, efforts have been made to shield snakes and other reptiles from the chilly weather. Straw bedding and 100-watt bulbs have been installed in the snake enclosures to maintain warmth. Similarly, the enclosures housing lizard species are equipped with straw, bulbs, and room heaters to provide a comfortable temperature for the reptiles.

To ensure precise control over the environment, data loggers have been installed in each reptile enclosure to continuously monitor temperature and humidity levels.

Chimpanzees and monkeys have also been provided with extra care to combat the winter cold. Blankets have been given to these primates for warmth, and room heaters have been installed in the chimpanzee enclosures. Given the severity of the cold, the heaters are being used extensively to maintain a comfortable environment for the animals.

To strengthen the immunity of the animals during the winter, the zoo authorities are providing immunoboosters, along with their regular food. In addition, they are ensuring that the water tanks in the enclosures are changed daily, providing the animals with fresh, clean, and hygienic water.

These efforts reflect Nandankanan's commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its animals, even during the harshest weather conditions. The zoo authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are ready to take additional measures if necessary to protect the animals from the winter cold.
