Odisha Winter Forecast: Cold Wave Persists as Mercury Dips Below 4°C

Winter has intensified its grip across the state, bringing shivering nights and foggy mornings to residents. Latest reports from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar indicate that cold wave conditions are actively prevailing in isolated pockets, particularly impacting the districts of Angul and Jharsuguda.

Freezing Conditions in Hill Stations

G. Udayagiri has emerged as the coldest spot in the region, recording a freezing 3.7°C. Plain areas are also feeling the chill, with Rourkela recording a minimum of 6.0°C. Residents in the Twin Cities experienced a crisp winter morning as well, with Bhubaneswar recording 12.1°C and Cuttack dropping to 11.4°C.

Fog Alert for Next 72 Hours

Visibility is expected to take a hit over the coming days. Meteorologists have predicted shallow to moderate fog during early morning hours until January 17, 2026. This fog alert covers a wide belt of districts including Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Puri, Khordha, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh. Commuters in these areas are advised to drive with caution during the early hours.

Temperature Outlook

According to the latest Odisha winter forecast, there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures (night temperature) for the next three to four days. However, relief is on the horizon. After this spell, the mercury is expected to see a gradual rise of 2°C to 4°C across the districts.

While dry weather currently prevails over most of the state, the combination of cold winds and morning fog demands that citizens stay warm and prepared.
