Global cycling elite gathers for India’s premier road race.

Excitement is reaching a fever pitch in Maharashtra as international contingents touch down for the much-anticipated Pune Grand Tour 2026. This event marks a massive step forward for Indian sports, serving as the country's first-ever Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) 2.2 multi-stage road race. Scheduled to run from January 19 to 23, the competition has attracted elite athletes from across the globe, ready to tackle the challenging Deccan terrain.

Organizers have confirmed the arrival of several high-profile teams, setting the stage for a fierce contest. Africa’s presence is headlined by Morocco’s Sidi Ali - Unlock Sports Team, bringing seasoned racers like Ahmed Echahed to Indian soil. Southeast Asia is also well-represented, with the Philippines’ renowned 7-Eleven Cliqq Roadbike team and Indonesia’s ASC Monsters and Nusantara Cycling Team joining the fray. These squads are regulars on the Asian circuit and are expected to bring high-speed tactics to the Pune roads.

European and Oceanian teams add further depth to this diverse peloton. Great Britain’s Schils Doltcini RT has arrived with a strong lineup, while Guam-based EuroCyclingTrips - CCN brings a mix of international talent. Completing the initial wave of arrivals is the Mauritius National Team, ensuring that five continents are represented in this landmark event.

In total, 171 riders from 29 teams representing 35 countries will compete. They face a grueling 437 km route designed to test stamina and skill. The race is divided into distinct stages, starting with a prologue at Goodluck Chowk. Subsequent days will see cyclists navigate the IT hub of Hinjewadi, climb the steep gradients of the Sahyadri ranges near Sinhagad, and battle crosswinds on the Deccan plateau towards Baramati.

This Bajaj-sponsored event is more than just a race; it is a showcase of India's ability to host world-class sporting events. As final preparations wrap up, sports enthusiasts across the nation are waiting to see who will conquer the ghats and claim the title in the inaugural Pune Grand Tour 2026.
