Chennai, Sept 8: Actor, and director Marimuthu, who was recently seen in the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer', passed away today due to cardiac arrest at around 8:30 am. He was 57.

The actor was said to be dubbing for the Sun TV soap, Ethir Neechal, in which he plays the role of Aadhimuthu Gunasegaran.

Marimuthu started his career by assuming a supporting role in the 1999 film "Vaali," alongside Ajith. He further honed his skills by assisting director Vasanth in "Aasai" (1999), a movie featuring Ajith, Suvalaxmi, and Prakash Raj as the lead cast. It was here that he gained valuable experience before taking his first step into the director's chair.

In 2008, Marimuthu made his directorial debut with "Kannum Kannum," a film that starred Prasanna and Udhayathara in the lead roles. Remarkably, he not only directed the movie but also penned the story, screenplay, and dialogues, while also making a brief appearance on-screen.

Subsequently, Marimuthu became a familiar face in the Tamil film industry, often seen in supporting roles in various movies. Some of his notable appearances include "Yuddham Sei" (2011), "Kodi" (2016), "Bairavaa" (2017), "Kadaikutty Singam" (2018), "Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum" (2021), and even ventured into the Hindi film scene with "Atrangi Re" (2021).

Marimuthu's most recent appearance was in "Red Sandal Wood," released this week, where he portrayed the character of Kabali-fame Vishwanth's father. It's worth noting that the actor also had a role in "Indian 2," a film rumored to be his final project.

Sadly, Marimuthu's journey came to an end, and the actor's final rites are expected to be held in Madurai. He leaves behind his wife, daughter, and son, leaving a legacy in the world of Indian cinema.
