Ivory seized, three arrested in Puri

Puri, Oct 20: Puri Police has seized two elephant tusks and arrested three persons in this connection. The weight of the seized ivory is around 422 grams. 

Police said acting on specific input, they raided a place near Central School under Talabania police limits and arrested the accused. The accused have been identified as Rahul Singh, Deepak Kumar Agrawal and Shyamsundar Lal.

Police said that a total of 442 grams of ivory, believed to be meant for illegal trade, were discovered in the suspects' possession. The accused will be presented in court today for further legal proceedings.

“The accused are being further questioned to ascertain the source of procurement of the tusks. We are also trying to find out the possible involvement of others in the crime,” said a police official. 

This arrest has brought attention to the ongoing issue of wildlife smuggling, particularly the illegal trade in elephant ivory.
