ISRO Unveils Model of India's First Space Station
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has provided the first public look at its ambitious future in space. During the National Space Day celebrations in New Delhi, the agency unveiled a model of the first module for the planned Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS). This marks a major milestone in India’s journey to join the exclusive group of nations capable of operating their own orbital laboratories.
Blueprint for an Orbital Laboratory
The unveiled model represents the BAS-01 module, the foundational component of the future space station. India plans to launch this first module into a 450-kilometer orbit by 2028. The long-term vision is to expand the station to a total of five modules by the year 2035.
The 10-tonne module is a showcase of India's self-reliance in space technology. It is equipped with several critical indigenous systems, including its own life support, docking, and automated hatch systems. The design also includes viewports for scientific imaging and crew recreation, making it a versatile platform for future missions.
Future of Indian Space Exploration
