New Delhi, June 4: The two brothers were together in almost their all initiatives right from playing cricket to establishing cricket academies across India.
Both have been part of several Team India wins including ICC World Cup victories. But the elder brother fought Lok Sabha elections this time and registered a massive win. Elated with his big brother's maiden success on the political turf, the younger one congratulated him.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan congratulated his elder brother Yusuf Pathan on winning the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal.
Yusuf, who contested on the All-India Trinamool Congress ticket, has defeated the veteran Congress politician and sitting MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury by a margin of 85,022 votes, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) data.
"Lala @iamyusufpathan With unyielding confidence in your noble cause, you embarked on the daunting journey to triumph over seasoned politicians. Armed with integrity and unwavering resolve, may your noble intentions translate into transformative actions, enriching the lives of our nation's citizens. Mera bhai jeet Gaya," Irfan wrote on X.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has got the majority and is set to form the new government for the third consecutive time in the country.
While several former India players like Kirti Azad, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Gautam Gambhir have tested success in poll battles earlier, Yusuf Pathan is the latest addition to that long list. (With IANS support)
