​​​​​​​New Delhi, Oct 28: Landfall process of Cyclone Montha began in the evening, said IMD, DG Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Tuesday.

While briefing the cyclonic rotation of the Montha to News7 at the IMD office in New Delhi, Mohapatra said that the Cyclonic storm that intensified in the deep sea in the Bay of Bengal by the evening moved towards the Andhra coast and its landfall process began here.

The process of landfall will continue for at least 4 hours and expected to complete by the midnight when the eye of the cyclone will touch the ground near the Kakinada coast.

Underlining the effect of the landfall, Dr. Mohapatra said, the gusting speed of the wind will range from 90-100 Km per hour during the landfall. High wind,more turbulent  tidal waves with heavy rainfall are expected along the Andhra Coast with isolated rain in the southern Odisha.

Highlighting the effect of the Cyclone Montha for Odisha, the IMD DG said, the storm will be weaker after the landfall. However, high wind ranging from 60-70 Km per hour will affect the Southern parts of Odisha, as the rotation of the wind is expected to move in north-west direction before it calms down.
