Gujarat Titans Resume Training amidst Anticipation of IPL 2025 Restart
Signaling a proactive approach towards the anticipated resumption of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), the current table-toppers, Gujarat Titans (GT), had their nets practice session in Ahmedabad. This move comes even though Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to finalise logistical plans and awaits official government clearance for the tournament to continue.
Gujarat Titans Back in Nets
Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans held a lengthy three-hour net session at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Notably, key overseas players Kagiso Rabada and Sherfane Rutherford participated alongside prominent Indian cricketers Mohammed Siraj and Gill. According to reports and sources, the decision for the squad to remain in Ahmedabad and resume training was made following the recent India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement. Gujarat Titans are currently leading the standings with 16 points from 11 matches (eight victories) and require just one more win to officially secure their playoff berth.
PBKS Coaches demonstrate Commitment
In a related development demonstrating commitment from team personnel, all three members of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) coaching staff – Ricky Ponting, Brad Haddin, and James Hopes – have reportedly opted to remain in India. This decision was made despite many overseas players initially departing the country and domestic players returning home when the tournament was suspended due to heightened regional tensions. The Ponting-led support staff chose to stay in Delhi after their team's match in Dharamsala was abandoned last week. Punjab Kings are also well-positioned in the league, currently third with 15 points from 11 games.
The resumption of training by a leading franchise like Gujarat Titans, and the decision by senior coaching staff from another contending team to remain in India, indicated a growing optimism for the tournament's continuation. While the BCCI navigates the final approvals, teams appear keen to hit the ground running once the official green light is given.
