Lucknow, April 29: He hit the headlines soon after his arrival in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He ran through the opposition twice and walked away with the Player of The Match awards.
His express speed, accuracy and agility impressed everyone. But once he got his rhythm in trouble and walked away from the field with bit of discomfort, the wait to see him back on field is getting bit unexpectedly longer.
Mayank Yadav, the latest express fast bowler in India to have hit the headlines was greeted with lot of cheers, expectations and future promise as well. But his dominance in the ongoing IP 2024 was bit short-lived.
But if his side (Lucknow Super Giants) bowling coach Morne Morkel is to be believed, Mayank Yadav may be seen in action on Tuesday against Mumbai Indians.
Morkel confirmed that Mayank has passed all the fitness tests and will play the match against Mumbai Indians in Match 48 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
The star bowler had suffered a soreness in the lower abdominal area during the match against Gujarat Titans and has now recovered.
“Regarding Mayank Yadav, he has passed all the fitness tests and is in the probable XII for the match against Mumbai Indians. He is looking good and is ready to bowl again,” said Morne Morkel in the pre-match press conference on Monday.
Mayank was also seen bowling in the evening practice session, here at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Yadav has so far played three IPL matches and has claimed six wickets, three each against PBKS and RCB. In a match against Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Yadav had to walk off the field after bowling just one over, where he was down on pace and was hit for three boundaries, conceding 13 runs overall.
In their next match, Lucknow Super Giants face Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Stadium on Tuesday.
If Mayank Yadav plays, will he be at his lethal best again? Or, like many other Indian express fast bowlers, he too would have a short stint at the top? Those questions may continue to worry cricket fans, experts and even the selectors. (With IANS support)
