Bhubaneswar, January 12: A scuffle between a youth with the security forces took place on the Utkal University Campus on Monday after the unidentified person broke the police cordon and suddenly marched towards Odisha CM Mohan Majhi.

Police seized the offender from the scene and detained him, to ascertain his modus operandi.

According to reports, Chief Minister Majhi was going to attend the National Youth Day Celebration of the Utkal University, organized at the Varsity’s Convocation Hall today. Meanwhile, a youth endeavored to break the security cordon and rushed towards the CM with a paper in his hand.

A scuffle came up on the scene as the security forces prevented his unauthorized access into the protected zone. However, the police finally caught hold of the offender and detained him in the Sahid Nagar Police Station, for investigation.

Primary investigation revealed that the youth is identified as Bijay Kumar Mallik, a native of Bhadrak district who was an alumnus of the Utkal University. He is reportedly an active member of the Odisha Janata Party, a regional political outfit, from which he had contested as an MLA candidate for the Bhandaripokhari Constituency.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain if the youth was keen to put up his grievance directly before the CM or there was any underlying political vendetta relating the Odisha government.
