Jaipur, March 28: Former India captain and ex BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is known for his bold decisions and his ability to think differently. He has a track record of having different plans ready for situations and loves to face challenges. That has been the hallmark of his decades old cricketing logic and the reason why he often enjoyed success.
On majority of occasions, his plans have proved to be appropriate and timely. But on occasions, his decisions too have gone awry.
But Ganguly has hardly been bothered by criticisms or critics. As the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, he justified his franchise's decision to open the batting with the proven Australian pair of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh
Preferring Mitchell Marsh as Warner's opening partner for DC over Prithvi Shaw, has however, not been appreciated by a section of experts and fans.
Had the Warner-Marsh plan worked in Delhi's opening encounter against Punjab Kings, Ganguly might not have faced such a situation of explaining the logic of preferring Marsh over Shaw as an opener.
But Delhi's 20 runs defeat against Punjab, propelled cricket fans to ask the DC management, why they ignored Shaw, when he was fit.
But Ganguly replied that both Warner and Marsh have opened together for Australia in the past and have tested success. So, there is nothing wrong with Warner-Marsh combination.
He further stated that since it's a very long tournament, Delhi Capitals are just trying different combinations. There is nothing wrong in trying a proven successful combination, he countered.
Ahead of Delhi's match against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, Ganguly replied to the media, "Prithvi Shaw is an opener. We decided to open with Marsh and Warner and Ricky Bhui is a middle-order batter. So, they bat at different positions. So it's actually not Bhui for sure. It's a different opening combination, they opened for Australia and they have done well together. So, we decided to do that,".
The former India captain Ganguly, who is known for his reputation to back talents, however, admitted Prthvi Shaw not spending enough time in DC camp was also was bit of a bother.
