Bhubaneswar, Dec 3: The Rural Development Department of Odisha has introduced a unique project aimed at improving rural infrastructure through Bridge-cum-Bandhara structures. These innovative constructions serve two important purposes: they enhance connectivity and support water conservation efforts.
The project combines bridges with small barrages, called bandharas, which help address several issues at once. By improving road connections, the initiative makes it easier for rural communities to access schools, healthcare, and markets. This, in turn, boosts economic growth in these remote areas. At the same time, the bandharas store water for agriculture, drinking, and other essential needs, which helps improve farming productivity and ensures better water management.
These projects also play a significant role in strengthening the rural economy by generating jobs during their construction and maintenance. As Odisha focuses on developing sustainable and innovative infrastructure, the Bridge-cum-Bandhara projects promise to uplift the living standards of many people. They contribute to the overall development of rural areas, creating long-term benefits for both the community and the environment.
With these efforts, Odisha is taking important steps towards ensuring better connectivity, improved water resources, and stronger livelihoods for people in its rural areas. The success of this initiative is expected to have a lasting positive impact, promoting overall rural development across the state.
