​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar/Visakhapatnam, Oct 28: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday cancelled as many as 42 trains in view of the Cyclone Montha.

As of 10:30 AM, 42 trains have been cancelled, two diverted, five short-terminated or short-originated, and eight trains rescheduled to ensure passenger safety. Among the affected trains, the 11020 Konark Express is cancelled for today.

Passengers have been advised to check the latest train status before starting their journeys and to avoid unnecessary travel during the cyclone period.

To assist travelers, the Khurda Road Division has set up helpdesks at Palasa, Khurda Road, and Bhubaneswar, while the Waltair Division has opened helpdesks at Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam Road, Duvvada, and Rayagada starting October 27, 2025.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Cyclone Montha intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts in Odisha are expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm. The IMD has issued a red alert for these districts.

The weather department has issued orange alert for Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri districts, with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
