BCCI Announces Squad for Asia Cup Showdown
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The team sees the return of Shubman Gill to the T20I setup, where he has been named vice-captain under skipper Suryakumar Yadav. In a major boost for the team, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also been included, putting an end to speculation about his workload management.
Team Composition and Key Roles
The squad selection hints at a new-look top order. Sanju Samson and the explosive Abhishek Sharma are expected to open the batting, with the newly appointed vice-captain Shubman Gill likely to take the crucial number three spot. This combination means there is no place for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the main squad; however, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that the young left-hander will travel to the UAE as a reserve player.
The middle order is packed with power-hitters like Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh, providing significant firepower.
Tournament Details and Full Squad
The Asia Cup is scheduled to begin on September 9 in the UAE. India, the official host, will play its first match against the UAE on September 10. The much-anticipated clash against Pakistan is set for September 14, followed by a final group game against Oman on September 19.
