New Delhi, May 9: Several videos shared on the social media platform ‘X’, claiming to show attacks by Pakistani forces, have been proven false by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
Recently, videos that claimed there were Pakistani attacks on Hazira Port in Gujarat and a drone strike in Jalandhar were confirmed to be fake.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) said the video actually shows an oil tanker explosion and is not related to any recent attacks. According to PIB's Fact Check on X, the video is from July 7, 2021.
Pakistan is wrongly sharing this old video and claiming it shows an attack on the port. PIB confirmed that the video has nothing to do with the current military situation.
The video spread quickly on social media, shared by several unverified accounts, and claimed to show damage from a Pakistani attack.
However, PIB’s fact-checking team, which is closely watching online posts about the conflict, quickly flagged the video as misleading.
Early Friday morning, PIB’s fact-checking team quickly exposed another viral video on social media that claimed to show a drone attack in Jalandhar.
In a post on X, PIB clarified that the video is not connected to any attack and actually shows a fire on a farm.
“Drone Attack in Jalandhar. This drone strike video from #Jalandhar is widely circulating on social media#PIBFactCheck This is an unrelated video of a farm fire. The video has the time 7:39 PM, while the drone attack began later,” stated PIB’s on its ‘X’ handle.
After India carried out major cross-border strikes on terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan, a wave of fake news and false claims started coming from across the border.
These are being spread by influencers, media, and even government-linked social media accounts in Pakistan.
Since India began its military action against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, PIB has already exposed several fake videos.
PIB has also asked people to be careful and check the facts before sharing any information online.
“In times like these, when national security is at risk, fake news can cause panic and confusion. Always trust official sources for updates,” said a PIB spokesperson.
The government also warned that spreading false or edited videos and information can harm both public awareness and the country’s morale.
Government officials have warned social media users that sharing false information—whether on purpose or by mistake—can lead to legal action under India’s cyber laws.
