Bhubaneswar, October 28, 2025: As Odisha braces for the impending threat of Cyclone 'Montha,' the state government has activated its disaster preparedness plan to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. The cyclonic storm, which is expected to make landfall on Tuesday night near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, has raised alarms in neighboring Odisha, particularly in eight districts that are predicted to be severely impacted.
Odisha's Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, Suresh Pujari, addressed the growing concerns and assured the public that the government is well-equipped to handle the situation. "We have been actively monitoring the cyclone's progress and have already conducted several rounds of meetings with district officials and disaster management teams. The Chief Minister also chaired a crucial meeting earlier today to review the preparedness and response strategies," said Pujari.
According to the Minister, the cyclone is likely to cause extensive rainfall and strong winds in the affected regions. The eight districts identified as most vulnerable to the cyclone include coastal and inland areas that have historically faced severe weather disruptions during cyclonic events. In addition to these districts, several adjacent areas are also on high alert, with precautionary measures already in place.
Pujari emphasized that the state administration has made comprehensive arrangements for the evacuation of affected individuals. "All necessary facilities will be made available for those who need to be evacuated, especially during heavy rainfall and strong winds. Our teams are on standby to assist in evacuating people from low-lying areas and vulnerable zones," he assured.
The Odisha government has mobilized teams from various departments, including emergency services, health, and transportation, to ensure a swift and coordinated response. Relief materials, including food, water, and medical supplies, have been pre-positioned in strategic locations to address immediate needs. Additionally, temporary shelters are being set up to accommodate people who may need to move out of their homes due to flood risks.
"We are fully prepared to face any situation that may arise. Our primary focus is on minimizing loss of life and property," Pujari reiterated. The government has also urged the public to stay informed through official channels, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow the instructions issued by local authorities.
As the cyclone nears, Odisha's authorities are in constant touch with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to track the storm's movement and update the public with real-time information. With the full mobilization of resources and the active involvement of local communities, the state is aiming to mitigate the impact of Cyclone ‘Montha’ and ensure a swift recovery in the aftermath.
