Bhubaneswar, March 9: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Monday instructed the state government to inform the House about the death of a farmer in Kendrapara district, which is suspected to be linked to harassment during the ongoing paddy procurement season.

In her ruling, Speaker Padhy directed that the concerned minister provide a statement to the House before the conclusion of the session regarding the circumstances surrounding the farmer's death and the outcome of the subsequent inquiry into the matter.

The issue was brought up during Zero Hour by Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik of the BJD, who highlighted the case of farmer Trilochan Nayak from Junagadi village in Rajnagar tehsil. Mallik claimed that Nayak, after returning home from a rice mill in February, suffered chest pain, which later led to his death.
