Bhubaneswar, Sep 19: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Friday strengthened its coastal defense capabilities with the induction of the fast patrol vessel (FPV) Adamya into its fleet.
The vessel was formally commissioned during a ceremony held at Paradip by Satyajit Mohanty, Joint Secretary (Defence Policy, Armed Forces Wing, CSD & Planning).
Built by Goa Shipyard Limited, Adamya is one of eight FPVs being constructed for the Indian Coast Guard. Designed for high-speed operations, the vessel can reach a top speed of 27 knots (approximately 50 km/h) and is equipped for round-the-clock patrolling to prevent infiltration, combat piracy, and conduct deep-sea rescue missions. It will be based at Paradip and operated by a crew of five officers and 34 personnel.
According to officials, Adamya will play a crucial role in maritime law enforcement, coastal surveillance, search and rescue operations, and the protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Highlighting the strategic importance of the new induction, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi posted on X: “Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, our nation is steadily advancing towards the vision of a Sashakt Bharat, with Odisha playing a pivotal role in strengthening India’s maritime security architecture. The commissioning of the fast patrol vessel ‘Adamya’ at Paradip is both a moment of pride for Odisha and a reflection of the state’s growing strategic importance. This vital capacity augmentation will enhance coastal vigilance, secure our Exclusive Economic Zone, and further reinforce national security in the Bay of Bengal. I convey my sincere congratulations to the @IndiaCoastGuard on this commendable achievement.”
Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, also congratulated the Coast Guard, writing on X: “Congratulate @IndiaCoastGuard on commissioning of Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) Adamya at Paradip. The commissioning of the indigenously developed FPV will enhance coastal security and maritime surveillance along #Odisha’s coast.”
With Adamya joining the fleet, India continues to bolster its maritime infrastructure and surveillance capabilities along the eastern seaboard, reinforcing national security in the Bay of Bengal region.
