Senior committee secretary Mangdu confirmed dead in Sukma operation

In a significant breakthrough against left-wing extremism, security forces have dealt a massive blow to the Maoist network in Chhattisgarh. At least 12 Naxalites killed in a fierce gun battle in the Sukma district mark one of the most successful operations in recent months.

The encounter erupted late Friday evening in the dense forests near Pamlur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kistaram police station. The operation was spearhead by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), a special unit of the state police known for its local knowledge and combat effectiveness.

According to officials, the exchange of fire was intense and resulted in the elimination of a high-value target. Among the deceased is Mangdu, the secretary of the Konta Area Committee. His death is considered a major setback for the insurgent leadership in the region.

Superintendent of Police (Sukma) Kiran Chavan monitored the operation closely. Search teams scouring the encounter site have recovered a cache of automatic weapons, including INSAS rifles and AK-47s, indicating the group was heavily armed.

Bijapur Encounter Adds to Toll

Violence was reported elsewhere in the state as well. Earlier in the day, a separate clash in the Bijapur district resulted in two more casualties for the rebels. This gunfight occurred around 5 am in a forested area when DRG teams launched a search based on specific intelligence.

Intensified Crackdown

These recent operations highlight an aggressive stance by security forces against the insurgency. Data indicates that the pressure on Maoist cadres has been relentless. In the past year alone, security personnel have gunned down 285 Naxalites across Chhattisgarh, with the Bastar division accounting for the vast majority of these eliminations.

As identification of the other slain cadres continues, security along the borders remains on high alert to prevent fleeing rebels from crossing into neighboring territories.
