Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: A man who was critical after a bomb went off in the Sundarapada area under the Airfield Police limit in Bhubaneswar on January 27, died on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Sahanwaj Mallik and three others were under treatment in a private hospital here following the major explosion that took place while they were making hand bombs on the rooftop.

While illegal arms peddling cases are on the rise in Twin-Cities Bhubaneswar & Cuttack, a bomb making den was spotted in the city on Thursday, wreaked panic among the denizens.

The incident came to limelight after 4 persons, residing in the Sundarpada area became critically charred in the explosion.

Police, after the rescue operation and subsequent investigation, unveiled that the explosion was triggered while the house owner, identified as Shehnaj Alli along with his aides, was making bombs at his New Azad Nagar residence.

According to police, as many as 4 persons sustained critical injuries in the explosion.

On being informed, the Airfield Police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the sleuths discovered a bomb making unit on the 1stfloor of Shehnaj Ali’s residence. At the same time, the police also dug out the crime history of Shehnaj who was found to be entangled in various heinous offences.

Shehnaj, who is now undergoing treatment, is under police scanner. Initial investigation revealed that Shehnaj is the mastermind behind the bomb-making unit.

Further investigation is underway to unveil the entire string relating the matter, said DCP Bhubaneswar Jagmohan Meena.
