New Delhi, June 5: Reaffirming its global leadership in disaster resilience and public health, India reiterated its strong commitment at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2025 in Geneva. Dr. P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, participated in the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group Roundtable held on the sidelines of the event.
During the roundtable, Dr. Mishra emphasized the vital role of the G20 in enhancing global disaster risk reduction by aligning economic capacity with the Sustainable Development Goals. He underscored the importance of international cooperation and collective resilience to address emerging global challenges.
Marking World Environment Day, Dr. Mishra also announced the African Union’s (AU) inclusion as a new member of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). Welcoming the move, he highlighted its significance in light of the AU’s permanent G20 membership granted during India’s 2023 presidency. The announcement was made in the presence of AU Commissioner Mr. Moses Vilakati and a CDRI co-chair representative from France at the ONU Geneva.
On the sidelines of the GPDRR, Dr. Mishra held discussions with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Their talks focused on India’s growing collaboration with the WHO in global public health initiatives. Dr. Mishra reaffirmed India’s support for the Second WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi in December 2025, and reiterated the commitment to the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
