Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: Customs officials at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) seized a major consignment of marijuana worth approximately ₹4 crore on Tuesday.

The seizure followed a detailed inspection of a passenger’s baggage arriving on an international flight from Bangkok. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Customs officers intercepted the luggage and discovered a large quantity of marijuana hidden inside.

One individual has been detained in connection with the case and is currently being interrogated by Customs authorities. Officials have not disclosed the detainee’s identity.

According to preliminary information, the passenger had landed in Bhubaneswar on an IndiGo flight from Bangkok. Initial assessments suggest the narcotics were intended for distribution during Zero Night celebrations, a time when enforcement agencies remain on high alert.

Customs officials have initiated a comprehensive investigation to trace the origin of the drugs and identify those involved in receiving the consignment.

With this latest operation, a total of eight consignments of Thailand-origin hydroponic ganja have been seized since January.
