India & Japan set for third '2+2' dialogue on August 20

New Delhi, Aug 17: India and Japan are set to hold their third 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers’ Meeting on August 20 in New Delhi to advance their strategic partnership, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent India, while Japanese Defence Minister Minoru Kihara and Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa will attend on behalf of Japan.
This meeting follows the previous rounds in New Delhi in 2019 and Tokyo in 2022. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the significance of this dialogue, stating that it would provide a major boost to India-Japan relations. The 2+2 format aims to deepen bilateral security and defence cooperation, enhancing the special strategic partnership between the two nations.
Additionally, the MEA highlighted the upcoming Voice of Global South Summit on August 17, which will be hosted virtually and aims to unite countries from the Global South to discuss common priorities.
