Puri, June 30: A young woman was found dead in the swimming pool of a hotel on Chakratirtha Road in Puri, triggering allegations of murder by her family.
The deceased has been identified as Sumitra Mahapatra, a resident of Gudia Sahi in Puri. Police from the Sea Beach Police Station recovered the body from the hotel's swimming pool and sent it to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination.
According to the family, Sumitra had gone to the hotel to perform at a bachelor party. They claimed that another young woman had accompanied her to the venue.
Alleging foul play, the family accused unidentified persons of murdering Sumitra and dumping her body in the swimming pool to make it appear as an accidental death.
Police have registered the case and launched an investigation. Officials said the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation. Further details are awaited.
