Jajpur, Jul 2: A woman's body has remained unclaimed at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jajpur after her relatives allegedly abandoned her following her death, prompting the medical outpost police to launch a search for her family.
The deceased has been identified as Mamata Munda, a resident of the Ghatagaon area in Keonjhar district.
According to hospital sources, Mamata was admitted to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital on June 26 after suffering from tuberculosis. She was undergoing treatment at the hospital but succumbed to the illness on Tuesday.
Following her death, hospital authorities found that none of her relatives were present to claim the body. As a result, her body has been lying in the hospital's mortuary since Tuesday.
The medical outpost police have begun efforts to trace and contact her family members. Authorities are trying to ascertain the whereabouts of the relatives who had reportedly accompanied her to the hospital.
The incident has raised several questions over why the family allegedly left the deceased unattended after her death and failed to claim the body. Police are continuing their inquiry to locate the relatives and ensure the last rites are conducted according to legal procedures.
