Jharsuguda, July 27: Police conducted an encounter near the Ib River ghat close to OPM in Brajarajnagar, Jharsuguda, in which alleged criminal Ankit Ghosh sustained a bullet injury to his right leg. The injured accused was later admitted to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
According to police sources, Ankit Ghosh, who has seven criminal cases registered against him, including murder and robbery, was being tracked by police as part of a special operation under the department’s zero-tolerance policy against criminal activities.
Police said a special team conducted a raid near the OPM ghat late at night after receiving information that some miscreants were allegedly involved in planning a criminal conspiracy. During the operation, Ankit allegedly opened fire at the police team and attempted to flee.
In retaliation, police fired back, during which Ankit sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg. He was subsequently taken into custody and shifted to the district headquarters hospital for medical care.
Further investigation into the incident and the criminal cases against Ankit Ghosh is underway.
