Jagatsinghpur, May 16: Jagatsinghpur police have arrested two brothers, Gyan Ranjan Nayak and Biswa Ranjan Nayak of Ichhapur village, on charges of blackmailing a college student after luring her into a relationship.

According to police, the accused allegedly coerced the student into repeated physical relations and threatened her with intimate photographs, forcing her to terminate a pregnancy. They also extorted Rs 2 lakh from her family.

The police investigation revealed that the brothers initially befriended the student via social media, gradually gaining her trust before ensnaring her in the blackmail scheme. Using the extorted money, they reportedly rented a house in Bhubaneswar’s Khandagiri area and indulged in a lavish lifestyle. The accused were arrested within 24 hours after the victim lodged a complaint at Jagatsinghpur police station. SP Ankit Kumar Verma confirmed the arrests during a press briefing.
