Three Orissa HC Judges ride bicycles to highlight fuel conservation

Bhubaneswar, May 18: In a commendable display of environmental awareness, three judges of the Orissa High Court chose bicycles over cars for their commute on Monday, underlining the importance of fuel conservation and sustainable living.

Justice Savitri Ratho, Justice V. Narasingh, and Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra cycled from their homes to near the Odisha Judicial Academy and then proceeded together to the High Court premises. Each judge covered approximately 4 to 5 kilometres one way, sending a strong message in support of eco-friendly transport and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.

The initiative gains significance amid rising concerns over air pollution and dwindling conventional energy resources. It also echoes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call for citizens to cut down on petrol and diesel use and embrace cleaner, more sustainable alternatives.

While accompanied by their personal security officers (PSOs), the judges maintained a simple approach, without any special convoy or elaborate arrangements, keeping the focus on the symbolic nature of their effort.

The move drew appreciation from lawyers, court staff, and onlookers, who hailed it as a meaningful step toward promoting environmentally responsible lifestyle choices.
