Rayagada, May 16: In a major breakthrough, Rayagada Police have apprehended three prime suspects from Aurangabad district in Bihar in connection with the abduction and murder of a youth in Rayagada.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Umesh Hial, Raj Seemli, and Akshaya Samal alias Tinkulu. They were captured from the jurisdiction of Madanpur Police Station following an extensive manhunt.
Police sources stated that six dedicated teams were formed under the direct supervision of Rayagada Superintendent of Police Swathy S Kumar, IPS, with Additional SP Ramendra Prasad, IPS heading the technical unit. The accused had reportedly been evading arrest and had managed to escape multiple times during the pursuit. The trio will be brought to Odisha on transit remand after completing all legal formalities and is expected to reach Rayagada shortly.
South Western Range DIG Kanwar Vishal Singh confirmed the arrests, adding that a detailed press briefing will be conducted on Sunday to provide further information. Officials, however, said additional details cannot be disclosed at this stage.
The incident occurred on May 10 in Rayagada town. The victim was allegedly abducted from the Indira Nagar area after the assailants opened fire. His body was later recovered from the Tumbiguda area.
The victim’s mother had filed a complaint stating that unknown individuals had kidnapped and shot her son dead. Investigations are ongoing, with raids continuing in several locations.
