Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: The upcoming Khandagiri Yatra will be conducted in a peaceful and well-regulated manner, with a strict ban on obscenity in performances. In a major decision, the number of benches placed under the Yatra stages will be reduced from 5,000 in previous years to 2,500 this year, with an emphasis on smooth audience movement and comfortable seating.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting held on Monday between seven Yatra committees and the Commissionerate Police, ahead of the Khandagiri Mela. Representatives of all seven committees were present and discussed issues related to crowd management, security, and smooth conduct of the mela and Yatra performances.
Earlier, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had stressed the need to completely stop obscene dances during Yatra shows. Officials said the directive will be strictly enforced during this year’s performances.
Committee members stated that priority has always been given to maintaining discipline at Yatra venues. Volunteers will remain alert to ensure proper seating arrangements and uninterrupted movement of spectators. Efforts will also be made to ensure that the mela is held in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere.
Arrangements for mobile toilets and parking facilities will be discussed with the BMC to ensure convenience for the public. Meanwhile, the police will intensify road patrolling and keep a close watch to prevent any untoward incidents.
In another key decision, Yatra committees will monitor and restrict video recording of performances. Officials expressed concern that some YouTubers and youngsters record scenes on mobile phones and circulate them on social media, which discourages audiences from attending live shows. Committee members will therefore keep vigil near the stages to prevent unauthorized video recording.
