Television Actress Priya Marathe passes away at 38

Mumbai, Sept 1: Popular actress Priya Marathe, known for her versatile performances in Marathi and Hindi television, passed away at the age of 38. She breathed her last at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai, on 31 August after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Born on 23 April 1987 in Mumbai, Priya pursued her education in the city before stepping into the entertainment industry. She began her career with Marathi serials such as Ya Sukhanoya and Char Divas Sasuche, quickly earning a name for herself.

Her breakthrough role came in Ekta Kapoor’s Kasamh Se, where she portrayed Vidya Bali. She also showcased her comic timing in the first season of Comedy Circus. Priya rose to nationwide recognition with her role as Varsha Satish in the popular serial Pavitra Rishta.

She later appeared as Jyoti Malhotra in Bade Acche Lagte Hain (2012) and was also part of shows like Tu Tithe Me, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.

Priya extended her talent to films as well, debuting in the 2008 Hindi movie Humne Jeena Seekh Liya. She went on to star in Govind Nihalani’s Marathi film Ti Ani Itar, alongwith Sonali Kulkarni, Subodh Bhave, and Amruta Subhash.

The actress had been undergoing treatment for cancer for the past few years. Though she initially showed signs of recovery, the disease relapsed and spread again, and her body eventually stopped responding to treatment.

Her sudden demise has left the entertainment fraternity and her fans in shock. Colleagues and admirers remember her for her warmth, dedication, and the unforgettable characters she portrayed on screen.

Priya is survived by her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe, whom she married on 24 April 2012.
