Nabarangpur, Ap 27: The headmaster of a Sevaashram school, recently suspended on charges of molesting a class 7 girl, has been arrested and sent to jail after being produced in court on Monday. The incident occurred in the Tentulikhunti area of Nabarangpur district.
The accused, Sukanta Kumar Sarangi, allegedly sexually harassed the student at the school. The victim informed her family, who subsequently filed a complaint with the District Welfare Officer seeking action against the headmaster.
Following the complaint, Sarangi was first suspended for misconduct. He was then arrested and produced before the POSCO court, which denied him bail, leading to his remand in jail.
According to Nabarangpur SDPO Krishna Chandra Bhatara, Sarangi has been booked under the POCSO Act, Atrocities Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act in Tentulikhunti police station case No. 81/26. The police recorded the victim’s statement and conducted a health examination before presenting her to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The victim’s statement was later recorded in court under Section 183 BNS, following which the accused was formally arrested. After appearing in the POSCO court, the bail plea was rejected, and Sarangi was sent to jail.
