​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, April 8: A serious road accident was reported early Wednesday morning near Adarsha Basti Square in Shailashree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits, leaving an auto-rickshaw driver critically injured.

According to sources, the incident took place around 5:30 AM when a speeding car collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw. Eyewitnesses said the auto was allegedly coming from the wrong side while attempting to cross the road, when the car approaching from the opposite direction rammed into it.

The impact of the collision created a loud noise, drawing locals and passersby to the spot. The injured auto driver was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital by ambulance. He is reported to be in serious condition. However, the passenger travelling in the auto escaped unhurt.

The car sustained significant damage to its front portion. The driver of the car fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle after the accident.

On receiving information, Chandrasekharpur police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Both the damaged vehicles have been seized. Police said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding car driver.
