Mumbai, Jun 2: The makers of the upcoming investigative thriller Raakh on Monday unveiled the gripping trailer of the series, offering audiences a glimpse into a dark and emotionally charged mystery set in late-1970s Delhi.

The trailer opens with a chilling question no parent wants to hear: “Bacche kab se gayab hain?” (Since when have the children been missing?), setting the tone for a tense investigation that unfolds against a backdrop of social and political change.

Directed and executive produced by Prosit Roy, Raakh has been created, written and co-directed by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket, with dialogues penned by Ayush Trivedi. The series features Sonali Bendre, Ali Fazal and Aamir Bashir in lead roles, alongside Akash Makhija, Ramandeep Yadav, Divya Sharma, Vivaan Sharma, Anshul Chauhan, Rakesh Bedi and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.

Ali Fazal, who plays Sub-Inspector Jayprakash, said the project immediately caught his attention because of its layered storytelling and emotional depth.

“When I was first approached for Raakh, I expected it to be a conventional investigative crime thriller. But after reading the script, I was drawn into its emotionally intense narrative and gritty realism,” Fazal said.

Describing his character, he added that Jayprakash is an introverted and unconventional police officer who is flawed, conflicted and constantly striving to prove himself amid a rapidly changing political and social landscape. According to the actor, the series is as much a character study as it is a police procedural drama.

Sonali Bendre, who portrays Mona Arora in the series, said the story appealed to her because of its emotional complexity and human depth.

“While Raakh unfolds as a thriller, at its heart it is a deeply human story. Mona is a character who embodies both vulnerability and quiet strength, and portraying her was an incredibly rewarding experience,” she said.

The actress also praised the creators and director for bringing sensitivity and honesty to the storytelling, expressing hope that audiences would connect with the narrative as strongly as the cast and crew did during its making.

With its blend of suspense, emotional drama and period setting, Raakh promises to deliver an engaging viewing experience. The series is slated to premiere soon on Amazon Prime Video.
