Jajpur, May 12: A troubling incident has come to light at the Singhpur sub-post office in Binjharpur block, Jajpur district, where a son has been unable to withdraw money deposited in his late father’s account despite submitting all required documents.
Saroj Kumar Sahu, son of the late Dhrubacharan Sahu of Singhpur village, has four siblings and belongs to a financially struggling family. Following his father’s death on October 18, 2024, Saroj repeatedly approached the Singhpur sub-post office to claim the deposited sum of ₹1,08,000 in his father’s account.
Despite submitting all necessary paperwork—including the death certificate, succession certificate, court affidavits, and Aadhaar cards of all siblings and witnesses—Saroj has been waiting since then years without receiving the funds. The post office has reportedly assured him that the money will be released eventually, but no action has been taken yet.
Frustrated by the delay, Saroj reportedly threatened to bring his father’s remains to the post office, drawing attention to his plight and demanding immediate action. Postmaster Sharad Kumar Sahu stated that all documents had been sent to the headquarters, citing administrative delays, and assured that the matter would be resolved soon.
Saroj’s drastic step echoes a bizarre incident in late April 2026 from Odisha’s Keonjhar district, where a tribal man, Jitu Munda, brought his deceased sister’s skeletal remains to the Odisha Grameen Bank in Patana block after the bank allegedly insisted on her presence to release her funds. Munda’s protest exposed severe administrative apathy, prompting immediate government intervention and assistance.
