Bhubaneswar, June 22:The Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) on Monday recorded the statement of the woman who was allegedly molested and stripped during a mob attack targeting two NGO workers in Rayagada district.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP), directing the state police to submit details of the case within seven days.

The NCW took suo motu cognizance of media reports indicating that the attack was triggered by rumours branding the NGO workers as “child kidnappers.” Seeking a comprehensive update on the investigation, the commission has asked for details of the FIR, including the provisions invoked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The commission has also requested information on the progress of the investigation, arrests made so far, and action initiated against individuals responsible for spreading the misinformation that allegedly led to the violence.

In addition, the NCW has sought details regarding medical assistance, counselling support, and rehabilitation measures provided to the survivor. It has further asked the Odisha Police to outline steps taken to ensure the safety and security of NGO personnel and interns working in vulnerable areas.

The commission has also sought information on preventive measures being implemented to curb incidents of mob vigilantism, including community policing initiatives and public awareness campaigns aimed at countering misinformation and rumours.
