Ravenshaw University Hosts New Interdisciplinary Training Programme For Odisha Educators

Ravenshaw University introduces interdisciplinary learning techniques to state educators

Ravenshaw University recently partnered with Bengaluru's Indian Institute of Human Settlements to train educators in modern teaching methodologies. Geography Department officials organized this three-day faculty development programme from July 9 to 11, drawing roughly 25 scholars from across Odisha. As one of the state's oldest educational institutions, Ravenshaw continues to lead regional academic modernization efforts.

Breaking Traditional Academic Boundaries

Resource experts from IIHS, including Prof. Gautam Bhan, Prof. Neha Sami, Prof. Geetha Krishnan, and Subhay Baberwal, guided the daily sessions. These specialists encouraged participants to apply critical thinking and look at academic problems through multiple lenses. Instructors directed intense discussions covering modern online teaching practices alongside broader interdisciplinary strategies. Educators learned how to blend different subjects to create better learning outcomes for students.

Real World Experiential Learning

Trainers deliberately combined interactive classroom lessons with practical field visits around Cuttack. Scholars examined urban case studies directly at Barabati Stadium, local transit hubs, and the scenic Naraj area. This hands-on approach gave educators concrete examples to use in their own classrooms, proving that teaching happens beyond university walls.

Professor Sibabrata Das, head of the Geography Department, convened the successful event, supported closely by coordinator Chinmaya Mallik and other faculty members. Research and Development Director Prof. Somnath Khaoash officially opened the inaugural session. Furthermore, IIHS representatives Dr. Suman Chatterji and Lata Biswal managed daily operations to guarantee a seamless learning experience for all attendees.
