Puri, Jul 17: The grand chariot procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra resumed in Puri on Friday as lakhs of devotees gathered to witness the second day of the annual Rath Yatra.
After halting at different points along the Grand Road (Bada Danda) on Thursday, the three majestic chariots resumed their journey towards the Gundicha Temple, the deities' annual destination during the nine-day festival.
According to the temple schedule, the morning rituals of the Holy Trinity were performed atop their respective chariots before devotees began pulling the massive wooden structures amid chants of "Jai Jagannath" and religious fervour.
On the first day of the festival, Lord Balabhadra's Taladhwaja chariot halted near the Fire Station Square, Goddess Subhadra's Darpadalana chariot stopped at Marchikote Square, while Lord Jagannath's Nandighosha chariot moved only a short distance from the Singhadwara before coming to a halt.
With the resumption of the procession on Friday, thousands of devotees lined the Grand Road to pull the chariots towards the Gundicha Temple, where the sibling deities will stay for several days before returning to the Shree Jagannath Temple during the Bahuda Yatra.
